To the Kamloops Residential School Families,

Whenever Indigenous people gather in the work we do, we gather with an intention to hold a focus of why we are here. Why we keep pushing for inclusion, for voice and for our laws to be respected. Our children are the reason for our work and so we put the little ones in the centre and surround them with prayer. They are the inheritors of all that we do.

It is times like this that remind us of the central role of children in our governance structures. We at the Indigenous Law Centre offer our love and our prayers to the children lost and to their families. Their pain is ours. We hold them close during this time of sorrow. The genocidal practice of residential school and the scoop era and apprehensions today cannot be forgotten.

In Spirit,

Marilyn Poitras (Director) and Maria Campbell (Cultural Advisor)
